Cabo vs Cancun
Where they are located on the map is probably the most obvious distinction between them. While they are both located on a peninsula, Cabo San Lucas is positioned at the base of a mountain range on the Baja peninsula, giving it beautiful views from every angle. It is also closer to the U.S. than Cancun, which is located further south of the hemisphere on the Yucatan peninsula. Why waste hours on a long flight, when you can spend those extra hours soaking in the beauty Cabo has to offer?
You are usually guaranteed sunshine in both regions outside of the rainy season, but other than warmth, the climate is different. Los Cabos is cooler and drier, similar to the beautiful weather in Southern California. Cancun is humid and in the Gulf of Mexico, which creates a greater chance of hurricanes and heavy storms. Cabo only has on average 10 rain days per year.

Hotel accommodations are probably important as you decide between Cabo vs Cancun. Most of the hotels in both regions are located on the beach, but what you might not know is the difference in how they are designed. Cancun is similar to Miami, where the hotels are tall and sit close to each other for literally, miles. Los Cabos’ hotels are shorter and more spread out, making it less active and congested than Cancun. You can definitely find peace and relaxation in Cabo vs Cancun. LuxLife made our trip super easy and wonderful. I really appreciate how proactive they were to help organize any excursions we wanted, provide restaurant recommendations, and coordinate our car service to and from the airport. Everything went smoothly as soon as we landed in Cabo, and we couldn’t ask for anything more.

Things to do
While the beaches are more swimmable in Cancun, Cabo offers some of the best surfing, golfing and deep sea fishing opportunities in the world. Due to the more upscale ambiance, smaller population and less commercialization Cabo creates a culture that is more relaxing and elegant. Whether you want to experience one of the world’s only wine spas or explore the landscape in Los Cabos, the feel is much calmer than Cancun’s lively and party-like environment.
